Spring 2008 Writing Competition
All children in the school were invited to take part in a Spring Competition. Nursery children were asked to draw a 'Spring' picture, Reception children were given a writing structure, and the rest of the school were asked to write out a poem (their own or any other poem) in their best handwriting, and to decorate the work. The winner from each class was chosen with the best handwriting, and the best overall presentation.
The winners were presented with a set of colouring pencils (Foundation Stage), Parker roller ball pens (KS1) and Lamy cartridge pens (KS2) in an assembly on the last day of term.
In all but three cases, the winners were girls. Participation in the competition varied from about 50% per class in the lower part of the school, to just a few children per class in the higher year groups. More girls entered than boys. In one Y6 class there was just one entry from a girl!
