Dear Parents
There was an incident last week near our school, on Limpsfield Road, involving a child who was approached by some men in a car. They made out that they knew his father and offered him a lift home. The child acted appropriately and ran home, and the police were informed.
It is appropriate, therefore, to ask all parents to remind their children about strangers and being safe, and to encourage any children who walk to or from school to do so in groups rather than individually.
There are six nominations for the three positions of parent governor, and therefore an election will be held. Information about the candidates and voting forms will be distributed at the end of this week or early next week.
We have been advised by our First Aid trainers that it is inappropriate to use ice to treat children when they have an injury, such as a bruise. Obviously we treat breaks and bleeds, and other serious injuries, but those children who simply have a knock will not receive any first aid. All injuries will continue to be recorded and those involving a head injury or a more serious injury somewhere else on the body will involve a phone call home or a note. So please do not be concerned if your child mentions that they were injured but we did nothing! We continue to have five fully trained first aiders in school, and congratulations to Mrs Adams and Mrs Hemmings who were recently reassessed and renewed their certificates.
Karen Speed has asked me to remind parents that they are warmly invited to join the Prayer Group which is open to Christians from all backgrounds. Through prayer they seek to support the children, staff and everyone involved at Atwood. They meet once a month in one another’s homes and in smaller groups between those dates. The next meetings are 8 th November, 6 th December and 10 th January, all at 1.30pm. For more details and the venues, please contact Karen via the school.
